In August of 2021, J-Zilla and Chulo Rich decided to create a podcast that set out to discuss topics and issues plaguing communities across America from each of their unique perspectives. To explore how a person’s experiences of failure and success could shape them and their communities, the show Urban Academia was born.

MEET J-ZILLA
Jeremy “J-Zilla” Gales Sr. founder and producer of GWB Studios and founder and co-host of the podcast Urban Academia. Through the Urban Academia podcast, J-Zilla hopes to approach the issues plaguing communities from all walks of life with questions and thoughtfulness. Along with his co-host Jazzy J and Chulo Rich, he believes that tackling each question with care will lead to possible solutions and community action through education. He believes common sense is much more common than we think but not as common as it should be.

J-Zilla is married to fellow Podcaster and Producer Asha Gales. They have 4 children: Alexandria (Ciel), Amarie, JJ (Jeremy Jr.), and Jackson. J-Zilla started his now retired podcast Let’s Talk with Gales and Dean in June 2020 and has been producing podcast even since. Anthony “Chulo Rich” Richard is a founding member and co-host of the Urban Academia podcast. By day Chulo Rich is an entrepreneur with business ventures in various industries. Through Urban Academia Chulo Rich wants to share his unique perspective with his audience by bringing nuance and realness to the issues facing his listeners.

Chulo Rich’s remarkable survival of the streets, the justice system, and a community in chaos with his mind, body, and values intact has provided him with a perspective that you won’t just find anywhere. One his Chulo Rich’s best qualities is his ability to transform the takes of JAZZY J and J-ZILLA and distill them down to bite size pieces that anyone can consume, digest, and convert into intellectual calories. It was he who first said on the show what has now become Urban Academia’s tagline: Common Sense Ain’t Common.

While Chulo Rich is single and maybe one day ready to mingle; he is also a father to 2 children, Kindyn and Nieem.
